EDUCATION CARE & SUPPORT
Despite the Government of Uganda`s adoption of Universal Primary Education (UPE), the functional fees for many schools, particularly in the rural communities we serve, remain beyond the means of numerous parents and students. These schools also grapple with severe under-resourcing, lacking essential infrastructure for a conducive learning environment, clean water, safe sanitation, and even indoor classrooms are frequently absent.
Our education program is designed to alleviate these challenges by covering fees and providing scholastic materials for needy students, especially orphans. Furthermore, we conduct thorough assessments of participating schools, collaboratively developing work plans with the school community to address critical infrastructural needs. This ensures a holistic approach to education, focusing not only on academic support but also on creating conducive learning environments for students in resource-deficient regions.
Meet Sulaina - Our Pioneer Student
On the left is Shaluwa the mother to Sulaina standing next to her fully dressed in a school uniform and eager to embark on school life. Shaluwa is a single mother of 6 children inclusive of twins. Shaluwa currently resides in Mulago-Kasubi, Masaka, located in southern Uganda. During COVID-19 times, she was 8 months pregnant with twins, her husband left her to search for a job opportunity, but he never returned or communicated with her. Since then, she has hustled to take care of herself and her kids by selling fruits within Masaka town, a job she does during morning and afternoon hours. Her kids do the same job every evening after returning from school to support their mother.
For a while now, it has been challenging to keep her children in school and Sulaina who was in her final year of O level had to drop out of school due to the school fees challenge. Through our charity work, we were notified of this. Therefore as EII staff, we fundraised school fees for the second term in order to enable her to go back to school to at least accomplish her O-level journey which is one of the minimum education levels in Uganda.
She is now left with third term in order to sit for her final exams in October 2023. You can aswell help her by donating towards this cause.
